Commitment° is a prerequisite
Sometimes, advance commitment is necessary. If you want to bake a cake you need to purchase the ingredients before you start baking, which is a form of pre-commitment.
In professional life, you often not only need to be committed, but have to show it as well. People will not take your work seriously if you visibly don't. In fact, commitment may be a self-fulfilling prophecy. If you're committed full-time to your project because you think it will succeed, it will. And if you are in it part-time, it might not.
