Local video and audio tools for coding agents. Describe the edit; let your agent work with the footage.
Give your agent the tools to edit
Give an AI a video and describe the result you want: make it vertical, add subtitles, clean up the audio, or anything else. MEX gives agents such as Claude Code and Codex the local tools to inspect the footage, make precise edits, render the result, and check what came out.
I regularly use this for:
- Making explainer and voiceover videos, for internal use and Linkedin
- Talking over a screenshare to give AI feedback on an app, deck, or anything else it has built
- Converting call recordings (e.g. all-hands meetings) into easily digestible, transcribed artifacts
MEX processes media locally, so you don't need to upload anything or buy any service to use it.
Run it on your Mac
MEX is a command-line toolbox for Apple Silicon Macs. It is pre-1.0 and free to use, including for commercial work. The project site has the current installation instructions, examples, and release links.
